Sims Brothers Recycling
Here's a story to give entrepreneurs of any age the hope and courage to follow their dreams. Sims Brothers Recycling was started in the 1920's with two elementary school-aged brothers who, out of economic necessity, started collecting scrap metals and waste paper through-out the city of Marion, Ohio. Using a small hand pulled wagon, Carl and Donald Sims sold the materials to a lo-cal scrap processor. From that humble beginning, the boys graduated to a dump truck and eventually Sims Brothers Inc. grew from a simple scrap peddling opera-tion into a “sophisticated, environmentally aware, multi- faceted recycling/processing management” operation. Today this privately owned business is owned and managed by Gary Sims, President.
Sims Brothers Inc. has four business locations, Marion (Corporate Headquarters), Bellefontaine, Delaware and Columbus which has made them Central Ohio's fastest growing recy-cling company. The Bellefontaine location has been in operation for the past 27 years with Kenny Seiter as the yard manager for the last 22 years.
Sims Brothers buys, transports, processes, brokers and sells all types of re-cyclable products including scrap iron and steel, nonferrous metals, card-board, newspaper, high grade paper, plastics and glass. The next step in the process is to transport these recyclable materials; and Sims Brothers operates a fleet of semi tractors and trailers, roll off trucks and lugger trucks. After preparing the recyclables to meet customer specification, they are sold to mills throughout the Midwest; then the cycle begins again. Sims Brothers process over 550 million pounds of recyclable material every year.
Gary Sims believes in a family management style which allows nimble out-of-the-box thinking and 24/7 customer support. They take a personal interest in their customer’s business.
Sims Brothers also knows the importance of community and has been a long standing member of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce for the past 27 years. They employ over 150 associates at their four recycling locations and are on site at several of their major industrial customers. They are customers to many local businesses, from truck drivers to contractors to wearable providers. They take an active role in the local chambers and strive to add to the local economy wherever they can.
Do What You Say You Will Do (DWYSYWD) - one might say this is Sims Brothers company philosophy. They believe they put their integrity and reputation on the line in the marketplace every day in everything they do. If they say they’re going to provide a service to the customer or community, they feel it's important to do it right.
It's like the lesson the Sims brothers, Don and Carl taught 75 years ago. When you put your heart into a family business, it's in the right place.
